This Hachiju Hachiya Shincha is a limited spring release made from the earliest first flush leaves, prized for their freshness and depth of flavor. Deep-steamed in the fukamushi style, it brews a vibrant green cup with a rich umami character, soft sweetness, and a full, rounded body that captures the energy of the new growing season.
“Hachiju Hachiya,” or “88th night,” marks a traditional point in the Japanese calendar long considered ideal for harvesting tea. Leaves picked at this time are especially tender and expressive, and shincha made from this earliest harvest has long been celebrated for its brightness and vitality. Produced in small quantities from Shizuoka, this tea offers a fleeting glimpse of spring at its peak.
Reinfuse several times.
Hot infusion: Use 5g (1 Tbsp) with 12 oz (350ml) at 175°F for 30-60 seconds.
Cold infusion: Use 5g (1 Tbsp) with 12 oz (350ml) with ice water for 10-15 min.
